How We Do It
Popcorn ceilings were popular for a reason — they hid a lot of mistakes. Removing them honestly is the only way to a smooth, modern finish. We mist the texture with water to soften it, scrape with wide knives, then skim the whole ceiling with joint compound to fill the divots scraping leaves behind. After sanding smooth we prime and paint with a flat ceiling paint so light reads evenly without showing seams. Containment matters — popcorn dust is fine, sticky, and travels — so we tape plastic on every wall and the floor, and we test ceilings installed before 1980 for asbestos before any scraping starts.
